I just gave a talk at the free2feed breastfeeding/parenting support group in St. George and was asked about my favorite parenting books. I have a love/hate relationship with parenting books because I see parenting as a more organic and individualized process where simple “how-to” lists don’t seem to apply. That being said, there are a few parenting books that have significantly impacted me and affected how I parent. There are many others that have contained some nugget that has also been useful. The book that captures my own study and experience of parenting the most is the book I wrote myself, “Faithful Nurturing: Mothering from the Heart to the Heart.” I also add my top picks below. Ultimately, it’s real life that teaches us the most…
- Faithful Nurturing: Mothering from the Heart to the Heart by Mary Illions Wilde
- Happy Kids, Happy You by Sue Beever
- How to Talk so Kids Will Listen and Listen So Kids Will Talk by Faber and Mazlish
- 7 Habits of Highly Effective People AND 7 Habits of Highly Effective Families by Stephen Covey
- What’s a Parent to Do? by Glenn Latham
- The Blessing of a Skinned Knee by Wendy Mogel
What are some of your favorites? Happy reading:)
